Marians Look to Build Marian Helpers Center

What Do They Need? Everything.

The Marians' mission in Argentina dates back to 1939, just a year after the death of St. Maria Faustina Kowalska and two years before the Marian Fathers of the Immaculate Conception took up the spread of The Divine Mercy message and devotion in the United States.

Today, the Argentine mission remains active in parish work, they administer two kindergarten programs, two elementary schools, two high schools, and other pastoral activities. Currently, there are seven Marian priests (an eighth will be ordained soon); two brothers; and one seminarian. The men work from Marian houses in the Diocese of Avellaneda and in the Archdiocese of Rosario.

What do the Marian Fathers of the Immaculate Conception in Argentina need? Basically, everything.

Father Dante Agüero, MIC, recently spent a month in the United States at the Marians' U.S. and Argentine provincial headquarters at Eden Hill, Stockbridge, Mass., home of the National Shrine of The Divine Mercy and the Marian Helpers Center (MHC). Father Dante spent the majority of his time learning the operation of the MHC, with the goal of taking his knowledge back to his country to establish such a center there.

"I realize it shall be an enormous task, because our resources are so meager," Fr. Dante says. He noted the Marians serve impoverished areas with lots of crime, drug use, and other social malediction. "To establish a fully functioning Marian Helpers Center will help us enormously in spreading the good news of the merciful Lord, but we are starting from nothing."

Father Dante says he doesn't even have his own office, just shared space in one of the parish churches where the Marians assist. The Marians need everything from paper clips to desks, computers to cars, chairs to buildings. They need financial help to purchase, build, or rent space for the new center. They will need donations of cash and items to furnish it.

Starting from zero, Fr. Dante says he sometimes gets overwhelmed at the task. Those are the moments that throw him back in trust to the Lord.

"I cannot do this," he says. "Only God can do this, for in Him, all things are possible. The best thing I can do is trust in God to encourage generosity among our supporters."
