Jesus, my Love, today gave me to understand how much He loves me, although there is such an enormous gap between us, the Creator and the creature ...
Diary of St. Faustina, 815

Saint Faustina writes of the enormous gap between the Creator and the creature. That gap is the result of our sinfulness, but it can be backfilled from both directions — from where we stand as contrite sinners and where God stands as our loving Father who forgives. That is to say, the gap is backfilled in the confessional.

Jesus tells St. Faustina, "I do not want to punish aching mankind, but I desire to heal it, pressing it to My Merciful Heart" (Diary, 1588). He also tells St. Faustina that through the Sacrament of Reconciliation "the greatest miracles take place, and are incessantly repeated" (1448).

Wow, what are we waiting for? When we make a good and sincere confession, He meets us where we are, and His Merciful Heart rejoices. He rejoices because He loves us. He sees His friends — suffering and lost — reach for Him across the chasm of sin so that we may be healed and restored.

With Him, we can finally stand on solid ground.
