When she was growing up in the Philippines, devotion to the Blessed Virgin Mary was so pervasive that loving the Blessed Mother was second nature for Maria Agana. Today, living in Houston, Texas, Maria has found that having this devotion is a blessing that many lack or do not understand — and so she wants to share it as much as she can.

"I don't know how people live without Our Lady," Maria said. "Some people have a problem with devotion to Mary, but I just want to tell them: She's not taking the place of Jesus; she is magnifying Jesus."

A few months ago, Maria was at home and saw a program on Our Lady of Fatima on the Eternal Word Television Network (EWTN). As soon as the program ended, she wondered, "How do I help spread the message?" She knew she could share with friends who already shared her love for Jesus and Mary, but she didn't know how to reach others. When she went upstairs to her desk, she found an invitation card for the organization America Needs Fatima and knew exactly what she needed to do. Maria decided to bring a pilgrim statue of Our Lady of Fatima to her house for a night of prayer in order to share devotion to Our Lady of Fatima with others.

Maria discovered that the group with custody of a Fatima pilgrim statue had one date still open in 2016: Nov. 27, the first Sunday of Advent and the first Sunday after the conclusion of the Jubilee Year of Mercy. Another "coincidence" — when it doesn't fall on a Sunday, normally Nov. 27 is the Feast of the Miraculous Medal. Maria invited close friends from prayer groups and friends of her daughters from school, as well as members of her Divine Mercy Cenacle, to come to her house for the evening. A total of 38 people, young and old, arrived at Maria's house for prayer and devotion.

The night began with a welcoming prayer and a documentary on Our Lady of Fatima. Because the documentary explained the vision of hell that the Fatima visionaries had experienced, Maria was a little nervous about how the children would react. To her surprise, it had a powerful impact on them — in a good way! One little boy told his mother, "Oh Mommy, I'm going to be more faithful!"

Everyone in attendance learned why we need to pray the Rosary, especially today. The custodian of the statue crowned Our Lady, and the group prayed a Rosary together before ending with a meal and joyfully singing some Marian hymns. Seeds of devotion to Our Lady were planted in many hearts that night, including the hearts of many little ones who will hopefully grow up spreading the devotion throughout their lives.

Maria has also found other ways to share devotion to Our Lady, especially with her children. In May, they pray a family Rosary together, and she hosts a "cupcake Rosary party" for her children and their friends from school. Maria orders cupcakes specially made to look like a Rosary, and then her daughters' friends come over to pray a Rosary and eat the cupcakes!

Maria said, "Sometimes I have to take a step back and realize what a blessing it is to have a devotion to Our Lady and think about how I can share it with others."

Let us all go and do likewise.

The Marian Fathers' Fatima pack gives you the information you need to be able to answer Our Lady's calls from Fatima and spread the word to friends and family. (Product code TH-FAMPK; Price $6.95, plus shipping and handling.) Visit ShopMercy.org or call 1-800-462-7426 to order.
