Oberammergau Passion Play 2020

August 1-13, 2020

Under the spiritual guidance of Archbishop Ramon Arguelles, please join Fr. Angelo Casimiro, MIC, for this once-in-a-decade opportunity to visit Austria and see the famous Passion Play!


Saturday, Aug. 1
Evening departure from Toronto/Vancouver/San Francisco/LAX/JFK to Frankfurt. Dinner and breakfast served on board. (D,B)

Sunday, Aug. 2
Upon arrival in Frankfurt, we will meet our tour escort and then proceed to hotel to check-in. We will spend the afternoon exploring Heidelberg Castle that rises majestically on the site of the medieval castle complex, the castle gardens, the Great Vat (the world’s largest wine barrell), and the remarkable Pharmacy Museum. Then to the old town — with its romantic charm, featuring the old quarter and maze of little streets. The Hauptstrasse is one of Europe’s beautiful precincts and shopping streets, along with the medieval bridge gate, as well as Germany’s oldest University, the lion fountain, and the university square. We will celebrate Mass at a local Church before returning to hotel for dinner and overnight. (B,L,D)

Monday, Aug. 3
After breakfast, we will visit Schoenstatt Monastery that is dedicated to the Divine Mercy, and then celebrate Mass at the Shrine. With a local guide, we will take a tour of Koblenz. We will board a boat that will bring us down the Rhine Koblenz, passing the town of Boppard, the famous Lorelei Rock, as we make our way to the wine country town of Rudesheim, with its lovely Drosselgrasse of taverns and restaurants. Return to our hotel in Heidelberg for dinner and overnight. (B,L,D)

Tuesday, Aug. 4
Following breakfast, we will depart for Switzerland. Before we cross over, we will view the famous Rhine waterfalls, and have the chance to take pictures. We will go to Einsiedlen, Switzerland’s famous Marian Shrine. The most important part of the Basilica is the Lady Chapel, a free-standing, square marble edifice that recalls the shelter over Christ’s tomb in Jerusalem’s Church of the Holy Sepulchre. We will also visit the world’s largest nativity scene, the Diorama Bethlehem, with more than 500 carved wooden figures. We will celebrate Mass at the Shrine, and then continue on to Weggis, a charming little town on Lake Lucerne, where we will check-in, dinner, and then overnight. (B,L,D)

Wednesday, Aug. 5
Breakfast in the morning, and then we will start the day by celebrating Mass at the local Catholic Church in Weggis. We will take an excursion of Lucerne, and then take a city tour. We will visit the Chapel Bridge, Water Tower, Jesuit Church, Franciscan Church, Water Spike, Spreuer Bridge, and Musegg Wall. Some free time in the afternoon (optional: visit the Lake, or an excursion to Cogwheel to Mt. Pilatus). Dinner and overnight. (B,L,D)

Thursday, Aug. 6
After breakfast, we will go to Vaduz (capital of Liechtenstein), and then go to Innsbruck. We will visit the Annasaule, little golden roof, Helbinghaus, Cathedral of St. Jacob, the Hof Kirche, and Maximilian Mausoleum. We will continue along the Zgupiszte towards Oberammergau. We will celebrate Mass at the Ettal Monastery, and then check-in to hotel, dinner and overnight. (B,L,D)

Friday, Aug. 7
After breakfast, we will have Mass. Following a light lunch, we will make our way to the world famous Passion Play Theatre. We will attend the performance of a lifetime, the 42nd Oberammergau Passion Play. The Oberammergau Passion Play tells the story of the Passion of Christ, beginning with His entry into the ancient city of Jerusalem, followed by His trial, Crucifixion, Resurrection and Ascension, performed by more than 2,000 citizens. Dinner and overnight. (B,L,D)

Saturday, Aug. 8
After breakfast, we will travel to Wieskirche. We will celebrate Mass at the Shrine, and then continue to Neuschwanstein Castle. We will go to Salzburg, the lovely birthplace of Mozart. Check in to hotel, and then have a special Mozart dinner at Peterskeller Restaurant.

Sunday, Aug. 9
After breakfast, we will have Mass at St. Peter's Churchyard. We will have panoramic tour of Salzburg and the "Sound of Music" tour including Mirabelle Gardens, the Nonnberg Convent of Benedictine nuns, the Fortress Hohensalzburg, Hellbrunn Palace, Schloss Leopoldskron, Lake Wolfgangsee in St. Gilgen, and the Mondsee Basilica. Dinner and overnight. (B,L,D)

Monday, Aug. 10
After breakfast, transfer to Prague. Rest of the day at leisure. Dinner and overnight. (B,L,D)

Tuesday, Aug. 11
After breakfast, we will have Prague city tour including St.Vitus Cathedral, Our Lady of the Victory Church (Church of the Infant Jesus of Prague), the Church of Loreto with the Golden Street, Charles Bridge, the Old Town and the Town Hall Tower with the famous astronomical clock. Dinner and overnight. (B,L,D)

Wednesday, Aug. 12
Following breakfast, we will depart for Munich. Upon arrival, we will have a city tour including “Marienplatz”, the world famous “Glockenspiel,” twin towered “Frauenkirche” (Church of Our Lady), and many more. Mass at Fraunekirche. Some free time for leisure before check-in to hotel for overnight. (B,L,D)

Thursday, Aug. 13
After breakfast, transfer to the airport for the return flights home. (B)
