Marian Vocations
"My vocation began at camp"

by Br. Michael Opalacz, MIC

When I was a 16-year-old student at Xavier High School in Middletown, CT, I felt a divine stirring in my heart. So, I decided to participate in a Marian vocation camp at Eden Hill in Stockbridge, MA.

Since I had learned to pray the rosary as a youngster, I was especially attracted to the Marians' life of prayer and returned to the vocation camp the following summer. At camp, I began to experience a deeper love for our Eucharistic Lord, as well as devotion to Our Lady and to The Divine Mercy. Sharing this love for Jesus and Mary has inspired my life of service as a Marian.

During my 33 years with the Marians, I have served my community and the people of God in many ways -- assisting the elderly in their homes and hospitals, teaching religious education, and serving in the community's novitiate house. My music ministry has spanned over 30 years in four parishes. I play guitar, stand-up bass, and mandolin.

Now, I look forward to expanding my ministry, having just completed a BA in Mental Health and Human Services. To those who are crushed in spirit, I desire to minister Divine Mercy.

Dear Marian Friends,

Brother Michael's life of service is so inspiring to me. He is a wonderful example of how a Marian brother can make a difference by faithfully
serving God's people.

If you desire to pour your life out for God's people and are a young man considering a religious vocation, I'd enjoy talking with you about attending one of our "Come & See Weekends" at our house in Steubenville, OH, on either Sept. 8-9 or Sept. 29-30.

You also may contact me to request our free information about life as a Marian priest or brother.
