Father Joseph Writes
Honoring a Legacy.

by Father Joseph, MIC

I am delighted to serve you as the new Director of the Association of Marian Helpers. I started in my new position last fall. I also continue to serve as the treasurer for our Province of Marians based in Stockbridge.

In my first column, I would like to honor the legacy of our outgoing Director, Br. Andrew R. Maczynski, MIC, and tell you about his new position.

For over six years, Br. Andrew served faithfully as your Director. I can't begin to do justice in this space to his many accomplishments. Instead, I'd like to give you a snapshot of his legacy, especially in the areas of spirituality and publications.

Brother Andrew, along with Fr. Seraphim Michalenko, MIC, helped to oversee the building of Our Lady of Mercy Oratory and Candle Shrine here at the Marian Helpers Center. Thanks to his foresight, weekday Mass is now celebrated for our staff in the oratory. Marians, staff, and members of the local community are invited to participate in extended adoration of the Blessed Sacrament there. Meanwhile, the candle shrine glows with votive candles lit for the special intentions of the Helpers and our many prayer-line callers.

Then, too, many fine Marian Press books were published under Br. Andrew's tenure as Director. They include a major publication on the Holy Father entitled The Making of the Pope of the Millennium: Kalendarium of Karol Wojtyla and Three Centuries with Mary Immaculate as Patroness. Three Centuries is a concise history of the Marians that has been published into just about every language spoken by Marians throughout the world. And we can't forget that this magazine got its "new look" in 2001 under his direction.

Now Br. Andrew -- who assisted in launching the Association of Marian Helpers in Poland in 1995 -- is assuming new duties as General Promoter of the Association for the various provinces of the global Marian community. The appointment came from our Superior General, the Very Rev. Fr. Mark Garrow, MIC. Brother Andrew will still have an office here at the Center in Stockbridge, so he can draw upon our resources in helping Marian Helpers Centers in Brazil, Ukraine, Poland, the Czech Republic, Great Britain, and Portugal.

We wish him well in his new responsibilities and thank him for a job well done.

"Father Joseph, MIC," is the honorary title of the Director of the Association of Marian Helpers. The current Director is Fr. Kazimierz Chwalek, MIC.
