The large crowd of the Jews found out that he was there. — Jn 12:9

The people in today's Gospel reading have never heard a rescue story like this one. Lazarus died, and Jesus raised him from the dead! Now, word gets out that a dinner will be given in Jesus' honor, and Lazarus will be attending. Who would be interested in seeing these two together? A "large crowd" (Jn 12:9). We have two groups in this crowd. Group one wants to see Jesus and hear Lazarus' testimony. Group two is made of the chief priests — who are plotting to kill Lazarus.

After all this time that we've heard the chief priests wanted to kill Jesus, why would they now want to kill this man? Because Lazarus is the living proof of Jesus' miracle. He was testifying to that, we know, because "many of the Jews were turning away and believing in Jesus because of him."

Testifying to the truth of Jesus can cause us difficulties or even endanger our very lives, as is the case with Lazarus. Under every circumstance, may we be living proof that we are grateful to have been saved by the Lord Jesus.

Prayer: My dear Savior, may all that I say and do give testimony that You are Lord.
