Dear Friends of the Marians, Central Berkshire Habitat for Humanity and St. Agnes Academy,

On Monday, September 9, 2019, the 23rd annual Slice of Heaven Charity Golf Classic will take place at Berkshire Hills Country Club. It is a privilege to host a tournament with a long history of serving the Berkshire community!

Over the years, Slice of Heaven has raised in excess of $400,000 for local charities. By participating in the Slice of Heaven as a sponsor, golfer, or raffle-ticket purchaser, you will help the Marian seminarians, the families served by Central Berkshire Habitat for Humanity, and the students at St. Agnes Academy in Dalton.

The Marian Fathers (a Catholic religious community of some 500 priests and brothers) are perhaps best known for their work promoting the message of Divine Mercy from Stockbridge, Massachusetts. In recent years, the number of men entering the community in the U.S. has risen dramatically. Currently, over 30 men are studying for the priesthood. Central Berkshire Habitat for Humanity transforms families by letting them become homeowners…one house at a time. They believe that every man, woman and child should have a decent, safe and affordable place to live. They build and repair houses using volunteer labor and donations. Partner families purchase these houses through no-profit, no-interest mortgage loans or innovative financing methods. To learn more, please visit berkshirehabitat.org.

St. Agnes is a Catholic parish school, united by God’s love, living and sharing our faith daily. They strive for academic success while promoting awareness and appreciation of community involvement as a lifestyle. Within this secure, welcoming environment, their experienced, dedicated faculty and staff celebrate the uniqueness of each child from pre-school through grade eight. 2019 Slice of Heaven Honoree

Jim Stankiewicz, a Dalton resident who joined the St. Agnes parish in 1987, began his 43-year career in education in 1976 as an elementary school music teacher for Pittsfield Public Schools. He then moved to the Central Berkshire Regional School District, where he spent 11 years as the band director for Wahconah Regional High School, before transitioning to administration and serving as assistant principal, principal, assistant superintendent, and finally superintendent. After two years as superintendent, he accepted the position as headmaster of St. Agnes Academy, where he served for 8 years.

The pastor of St. Agnes, Fr. Chris Malatesta says, "Jim has been a steady hand, a strong leader, and a great contributor to our school, advancing our mission as an institution of academic excellence. Jim's friendly and approachable manner and his professionalism will be missed; we all wish him the best in retirement."

Jim plans to remain active in the music ministry and camp programs at St. Agnes parish and to spend more time with family and making music.
